Popular Holiday

Lontong

Lebaran is a popular holiday in my country. We only have 2 days off, but usually people who are muslims, take annual leave on this Eid Al-Fitri. Lebaran or Eid Al-Fitri is celebration of the ending fasting month, Ramadan. People spend their holidays going home to parents’ or families’ home at the villages they come from; our term for this is ‘mudik’. Usually we visit and forgive each other by visiting all our families and neighbours. Every day of the holiday is full of visiting, forgiveness and food, because every home serves lots of food. There are traditional cakes, snacks, crackers and drinks and meals, especially lontong (food consisting of rice steamed in banan leaf). There is unwritten rule that we have to eat or drink how ever very little we drink or eat what they serve. All people, young and old, are happy to meet and gather old friends, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, grandchildren and they wear their newest clothes.
